7:30 p.m. – Global vs Home United
Global-Cebu seeks an early advantage against Singaporean side Home United as they begin their two-legged affair tonight in the ASEAN zonal semifinals of the AFC Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Cebu-based club wants nothing more than to continue its unbeaten run in Manila as the Group F winners face the top team of Group H in the opening leg set at 7:30 p.m.
Behind three goals each from former Azkals mainstay Paul Mulders and Trinidadian Darryl Roberts, Global took Group F by winning five of six matches.
The club coached by Japanese Imai Toshiaki won all three home matches, highlighted by a stunning 3-2 upset of Malaysian powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim last month.
This time, Global will be up against Home United, currently third in its local league called the S.League and took Group H with nine points on three victories and one defeat.
Other players to watch out for Global are Fil-Japanese midfielder Hikaru Minegishi, striker Misagh Bahadoran, defender Amani Aguinaldo and midfielders Shu Sasaki and Dennis Villanueva.
The second leg of their duel will be on May 30 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
The other ASEAN zonal semifinal pairing pitting Ceres-Negros and Johor begins tomorrow in Malaysia. Ceres topped Group G while Johor qualified as the best second placer from the three ASEAN groups.
