League-leader Meralco-Manila shoots for its third straight victory when it faces JPV-Marikina today in the Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium in Binan, Laguna.
The Sparks expect stiff competition from the Japanese-flavored side in the 4 p.m. contest after opening their campaign in the new league with two contrasting victories over Stallion-Laguna and Ilocos United.
Over at the University of Makati Field, Kaya-Makati hosts the Davao Aguilas at 7 p.m. with its eyes on barging into the win column after battling fancied Ceres-Negros to a 1-all tie two weeks ago at the same pitch.
Davao is seeking its first victory after a 1-all draw with Ilocos United followed by that 2-1 defeat to Meralco.
Meralco claimed the early lead in the eight-team professional football league at the Rizal Memorial Stadium thanks to a second half header by Jake Morallo to beat the Ilocano squad.
Sparks coach Aris Caslib is bracing for a strong challenge from JPV, which endured a five-goal thriller to post a 3-2 victory over Davao last weekend in Tagum.
“JPV is well organized and have the ability to play well on both ends of the pitch,” said Caslib.
Brothers Phil and James Younghusband are expected to lead Meralco against JPV which is led by Japanese standouts Takashi Odawara and Takumi Uesato.
