Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has expressed his opposition to the implementation of Republic Act 10666, otherwise known as the Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015, which bans small children from riding motorcycles.
“The intention is there, the safety of the kids, but I think there is a bigger danger when our children cannot go to school anymore. Do you expect children to walk to school?” Osmeña asked.
Osmeña stressed that there are children who live in the mountain part of Cebu and whose main mode of transport going to school are motorcycles.
Acording to Osmeña, kids as young as four can still ride motorbikes while wrapping their arms around the driver’s waist.
Osmeña, however, fully supports the implementation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Law (RA 10913) which prohibits drivers from using communication devices or any gadgets while driving their vehicles.
