Matthew Nierras saved Stallion-Laguna from the jaws of defeats with a last-gasp goal to salvage a 1-all draw against fancied Global-Cebu on Sunday in the Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.
Nierras capitalized on being left unmark after receiving a cross from the left flank, and fired a right-footed shot that hit the face of Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto before the ball ricocheted into the bottom corner.
Stallion fans went berserk as their team scored its first point in the new league while dealing Global another last-second equalizer, five days after allowing one at the death in the 2-all draw against Singapore’s Home United in the first leg of their AFC Cup ASEAN zonal semifinals.
The goal cancelled the opening goal of Global’s Shu Sasaki off a through ball by Pika Minegishi in the 82nd minute.
Global failed to move up in the standings and settled for a share of second to fourth with Kaya-Makati and JPV-
Marikina at four points apiece.
They are five points behind Meralco-Manila, which leads the table with nine points after winning its first three matches.
