DAGUPAN CITY – The City agriculture office here said the abnormal temperature led to the death of a good number of milkfish recently.
But Emma Molina, city agriculturist denied it as fishkill.
“Hindi naman natin matawagan na fishkill dahil ilan lang yan namamatay sa fish pond at normal na lang iyan, pero kung libo na bangus iyan masasabing fishkill”, said Molina.
Molina disclosed that fishponds operators have learned their lesson during 2006 fishkill where thousands of bangus died.
The incident in 2006 was so fast that in a matter of minutes, a massive fishkill was reported.
But this time she said, operators of fishponds were already forewarned of possible effect of changing weather.
Add to that is the continues seminar on aquaculture management training for mitigation and prevention which also served as a big help to fish growers. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
