AKLAN – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-6) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) must identify possible sinkholes in Kalibo, the provincial capital of Aklan.
Town Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz said that a topographic survey must be done soonest to identify these sinkholes.
Dela Cruz, who chairs the committee on environment, said a topographic survey is important for proper land use planning. It will be basis as to what buildings can be given construction permits.
Dela Cruz said she prompted to sponsor a resolution calling MGB-6’s attention following a series of earthquakes and flooding incidents across the country.
Dela Cruz expressed concern that Kalibo may be prone to sinkholes since it is a coastal town.
She added that the proposed topographic survey may avail funding from the People’s Survival Fund (PSF), which is stipulated in Republic Act No. 10174 or the Climate Change Act of 2009. (Jun N. Aguirre)
