BRP Tarlac (LD 601), the first of the Philippine Navy’s Amphibious Landing Dock formerly known as Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV), sailed Thursday from Subic Bay, Olongapo City for Mindanao to transport military vehicles and supplies to military units in the South.
Captain Lued Lincuna, the Director of the Naval Public Affairs Office, said for its mission, LD 601 accommodated 30 military vehicles and supplies weighing 253 tons.
“These cargos will be distributed to the different AFP units in Mindanao to cater to the transport and logistical requirements of the ongoing military operations against terrorists,” Lincuna said in a statement.
Lincuna said the ship is utilized not only to support military operations, but also for mass evacuation and even international humanitarian assistance during disasters and crisis.
The ship has the capability to accommodate more that 4,000 tons of cargo and 500 personnel onboard.
