(The Arena, San Juan City)
1 p.m. – Army vs IEM (men’s)
4 p.m. – Creamline vs Air Force (women’s)
6:30 p.m. – Pocari vs Perlas (women’s)
Reigning champion Pocari Sweat guns for the third semifinal berth today when it squares off with Perlas Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League women’s tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Match is at 6:30 p.m. with the Lady Warriors aiming to complete a three-game sweep of the round-robin quarterfinals to join early semifinalists BaliPure and Power Smashers in the next round.
Equally important is the 4 p.m. showdown between Alyssa Valdez’s Creamline and Air Force.
Like Perlas, Creamline and Air Force also have 1-1 records.
The winners in both matches will complete the semis cast with Valdez promising to give her all in their game against the Air Force squad.
Consistency, meantime, plays a vital role in Pocari’s semis bid after needing five sets to beat Air Force and Creamline in previous matches.
“Magandang challenge for us na nakakalaro kami ng five-setter because it’s a test of character for our players. But more than that, we need to be consistent kasi kung kaya namang tapusin ng three sets, bakit hindi namin gawin,” said Pocari coach Rommel Abella.
Abella was referring to the team’s latest win – a 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 thriller over Creamline last Tuesday.
Abella is again banking on guest player Michelle Strizak who exploded for 30 points against Creamline.
Help is also expected from Myla Pablo, Maricar Nepomuceno, and libero Melissa Gohing are also expected to step up.
