Glydel Guevarra and JB Aguilar breezed through with a pair of victories to share top honors in two classes in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala Legazpi regional age group tennis tournament in Bicol recently.
Guevarra, from Iriga, fended off Abe de Castro, 6-4, 6-3, to claim the girls’ 12-and-under crown then scored a 1-0 (ret.) win over Zia Arcangel to complete a “double” in the Group 2 tournament hosted by Gov. Al Francis Bichara and Mayor Noel Rosal through Lignon Hills Tennis Club president Nards Gonzales.
Aguilar, on the other hand, upset top seed Ryan Taller, 6-1, 6-2, for the 12-U title then teamed up with his victim to repulse JC Gonzales and Mark Guevarra, 8-5, for the 14-U doubles plum.
Guevarra also partnered with Althea Espiritu and edged Arcangel and Kim Taller, 8-6, for the 14-U doubles title and shared the MVP honors with Aguilar.
“Producing new faces is what the PPS-PEPP is all about and we hope to discover more in our annual year-long nationwide circuit and help expand the base of tennis talents for future national pool,” said Palawan Pawnshop president Bobby Castro.
Top seed Joma Pague from Zamboanga Sibugay scored a walkover win over Jojo Basa in the boys’ 18-U finals.
