Transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide will stage another nationwide protest against the government’s plan to modernize jeepneys tomorrow.
George San Mateo, national president of PISTON, said in a press briefing yesterday that they expect thousands of their members to participate in their protest in time for the opening of classes.
San Mateo said they will be joined by other groups that are also against the phase-out of old and dilapidated jeepneys.
San Mateo assured that the protest will not affect students and commuters in most parts of the country as they will only hold jeepney caravans and rallies.
The caravan in Metro Manila will start on Elliptical Road in Quezon City and end at the Department of Transportation office in Mandaluyong City. San Mateo said they will stop at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board office on East Ave., Quezon City to call for a dialogue with public transport officials.
Their members in the Visayas, particularly in Aklan, Iloilo, Capiz, and Negros Occidental, on the other hand, will be on a transport holiday from June 5 to 6. Some schools have suspended classes for the strike.
