(Philsports Arena, Pasig City)
4 p.m. – Pocari vs Power Smashers
6:30 p.m. – Creamline vs BaliPure
Defending champion Pocari Sweat and BaliPure try to arrange a championship showdown as they go for a sweep of their respective semis series today in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) women’s tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Warriors tangle with the Power Smashers at 4 p.m., while the Water Defenders collide with the Creamline Cool Smashers at 6:30 p.m. in Game 2 of their best-of-three series.
Both Pocari and BaliPure drew first blood last Saturday with the Lady Warriors pulling off a 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12 triumph over the Power Smashers, while the Water Defenders eked out a 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 win over the Cool Smashers.
Despite its formidable lineup, Pocari coach Rommel Abella is not taking the Power Smashers lightly.
“We can’t afford to give the Power Smashers the momentum. May tendency talaga kaming mag-relax, but we’ve been working on it,” said Abella.
American import Michelle Strizak is once again expected to lead Pocari while local help will come from Myla Pablo, Desiree Dadang and libero Melissa Gohing.
For the Power Smashers to have a better chance of extending the series, they have to be consistent on both ends.
More importantly, they have to lessen their errors.
Like Pocari, BaliPure expects Creamline to go all-out to force a rubber match.
There’s no problem with Alyssa Valdez’s performance of late, but what Creamline needs is total team effort.
