Trainer Glenn Rushton took a close look at last week’s training of his fighter Jeff Horn and felt convinced that Manny Pacquiao will find himself in big trouble on July 2 in Brisbane.
“Jeff is on track,” Rushton the Courier Mail. “He is where I need him to be with still room to lift the intensity and to refine a few strategies.”
Rushton is so looking forward to the crack at Pacquiao’s world welterweight crown at Suncorp Stadium that he warns Pacquiao to be in top form.
“Pacquiao had better be ready for the fight of his life,” added Rushton.
Melbourne-based Czar Amonsot, Horn’s Filipino sparmate, also echoes Rushton’s observations.
“Jeff is explosive,” said Amonsot, who relocated to Australia after campaigning in the Philippines and the US fighting under the stable of Tony Aldeguer in Cebu.
After tasting the fury of Horn’s punches during their sparring session, Amonsot described the right-hand of the 29-year-old Brisbane native as “fast and powerful.”
“That’s a punch that could give Pacquiao a lot of trouble,” added Amonsot, who had to base himself in Australia after losing to Australian Michael Katsidis in a slugfest in Las Vegas in 2007.
Horn is the massive underdog against Pacquiao, who is also deep in raining in General Santos City where he will spend the most crucial stage of his preparation before flying to Australia on June 24.
