Fil-Am speedster Eric Cray has what it takes to match his double gold medal performance in the 29th Southeast Asian Games this August in Malaysia, according to athletics secretary general Renato Unso.
“I think he will duplicate his gold medal (in the 100 meter dash and 400 hurdles),” said Unso, revealing also that he is also urging the 28-year-old Olongapo-born Cray to run the 4×4 relay.
Besides, Cray has been making heads turn during the SEAG buildup as he broke the Philippine record in the 60m indoor, Unso said.
Cray also took the gold in the 400 hurdles in the 2013 edition of the SEAG in Myanmar.
So impressive is Cray that even Patafa chief Philip Juico singles him out as a sure gold medal winner in Kuala Lumpur alongside pole vaulter EJ Obiena and triple jumper Mark Harry Diones.
Meanwhile, SEAG-bound bets are taking part in the Thailand Open next week that will serve as a preparation for the SEAG.
A training camp in Hong Kong is also lined up although Cray won’t be attending as he has his own training regimen in place in the US.
