Kenji Cañete fired 33 points while Joshua Tolentino added 32 as Chiang Kai Shek College beat AMA, 108-83, and won the 15-Under crown for the fourth straight year in the Headstart Development Basketball League-Freego Kids Cup held recently at the SGS gym in Quezon City.
After taking only a 29-19 first quarter lead, the Blue Dragons intensified their attack in the next two frames for a 92-64 advantage going into the final quarter – a lead which proved too huge for the AMA cagers to overcome.
Vincent Vinluan chipped in 11 points and 15 boards to emerge as the tournament MVP while Tolentino bagged the Finals MVP after also posting 9 assists and seven rebounds.
Aside from Vinluan and Tolentino, other members of the Mythical Selection of the event also backed by AXA Philippines and Duralite were AMA’S Christian Camay and Letran’s Stacey Tibayan and Ralph Cauguiran.
Meantime, Philippine Elite expectedly topped the 12-U division of the event organized by Freego Sports Marketing consultant Edster Sy with Willy Chan as tournament director by downing RTMM Engineering, 89-62.
Carlos Cantorna won the Finals MVP after finishing with 20 points and 22 rebounds even as Ian Chua took the tournament MVP after capping his tournament-long brilliance with 16 points, four assists and the same number of rebounds.
Comprising the Mythical Selection – aside from Chua and Cantorna – are RTMM’s James Miranda and Lorenzo San Agustin, and Tyrone Tecson of CKSC.
