A popular Makati City bar-restaurant was padlocked yesterday by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for its alleged failure to show its official receipts and books of accounts.
Makati Revenue Regional Director Glen Geraldino identified the eatery as Union Jack Tavern on Rufino St., Legaspi Village, Makati.
It was alleged that the establishment has not been regularly issuing receipts to its client as evidenced by the No. 9 receipt issued to a revenue officer who dined in the establishment despite the fact that it has been operating since 2016 and always filled with customers.
The bar was also accused of non-filing of 2016 value added tax return and pay taxes on its sales last year.
Under Section 115 of the Tax Code, the BIR is authorized to suspend or close business operations of a taxpayer failure to register, issue VAT receipts or sales invoices, file correct VAT returns and pay the tax.
Makati East Revenue District officer Florante Aninag recommended the closure after the management ignored notices sent to pay VAT deficiencies. (Jun Ramirez)
