HAVE you ever wondered if you walk while asleep?
Naaalimpungatan ka ba?
One to 15 percent of the world’s population are said to be suffering from the strange disorder known as sleepwalking.
Sleepwalking is a sleep disorder which makes patients perform their daily activities even while they are asleep.
According to sleepfoundation.org, sleep walking “is a series of complex behaviours that are carried out while sleeping, the most obvious of which is walking.”
It involves activities which the sufferer usually considers as routine. They are either walking around the house or cleaning it.
Children between the ages of three and seven commonly suffer from this condition. It also frequently happens to those with sleep apnea.
Sleepwalking affects people even as they reach adulthood. It becomes common especially among those who have emotional problems, are stressed, or who lack sleep.
Experts say that those who suffer from sleepwalking need not be awakened. It is not associated with any psychiatric or psychological problems. However, keeping patients in this state can be dangerous.

The case of Kenneth Parks in 1987 is one memorable example on the danger brought by sleepwalking.
Parks killed his mother-in-law and assaulted his father-in-law while sleepwalking. The trial court acquitted him from the charges because he acted not out of his willful control.
Sleepfoundation.org says the symptoms of this sleep disorder are sleep talking, lack of memory in what happened, showing of improper behavior while asleep, and screaming.
