A holdup suspect was killed in a shootout with policemen shortly after he robbed a woman waiting for a ride home early yesterday morning in Parañaque City..
Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo, city police chief, said that prior to the encounter, a commuter identified as Aya Lopez, 20, of Las Piñas City, sought assistance from a passing patrol car, telling the cops that she was robbed by an unidentified armed man.
Lopez narrated that she was waiting for a ride home at about 2:30 a.m. on NAIA Road corner Pelaez St. in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City, when approached by the suspect and, at gunpoint, took her bag containing cash, cellular phone, and other personal belongings.
Lopez claimed that the suspect just casually walked away going to a dimly lit portion of Pelaez St. after taking her bag.
Responding to the woman’s complaint, Modequillo said the cops searched the area and later spotted and tried to accost the suspect.
The armed man, however, drew his firearm and fired shots at the approaching policemen.
The cops returned fire, killing the suspect on the spot.
The city police chief said they have yet to establish the identity of the suspect who was wearing a blue shirt and short pants. His body was brought to Peoples Funeral Homes.
Police investigators recovered from the crime scene one .38-caliber revolver with live ammunition and two fired cartridge, one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing shabu, five spent shells from .9mm pistol, and the bag of Lopez.
