An alleged drug pusher and a former candidate of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant were arrested after they yielded 200 grams of suspected shabu and party drugs valued at R2 million during a raid in a high-end condominium at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City Friday.
Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario Jr., Southern Police District director, identified the suspects as Joseph Bayquen Jr. of Trion Tower 2, BGC, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, and Binibining Pilipinas 2013 candidate Maria Sofia Gloria Mustonen, 27.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-National Capital Region received information that Bayquen was allegedly selling illegal drugs to bars and clubs and call center agents at BGC. PDEA-NCR placed Bayquen under surveillance for several weeks and obtained a search warrant.
Apolinario said PDEA-NCR, in coordination with the Taguig Police Community Precinct 7, raided Bayquen’s condo unit and nabbed the suspect who was accompanied by Mustonen.
Found in the condo were about 200 grams of shabu, 50 grams of cocaine, 163 pieces of ecstasy tablets, a caliber .45 pistol, and a caliber .22 revolver.
Bayquen admitted he was a “user” but he denied he was selling illegal drugs. Mustonen also denied she was involved in the illegal drug activities of Bayquen and claimed she was just visiting him when the police arrived.
Bayquen and Mustonen were taken to the PDEA headquarters and will be charged with violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while the seized illegal drugs were turned over to the PDEA-NCR for proper disposition. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
