Southeast Asian Games-bound Lois Kaye Go closed out with a tournament-record seven-under par 65 to win the 2017 Women’s Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, New York.
Go, an 18-year-old Boston College coed, won by five shots over Lauren Waller of Pennsylvania. She had a 54-hole total of eight-under 208.
It was a big comeback for Go who struggled with a 74 in the first round before going 10-under through the final 36 holes.
Waller, who started the final round in joint first place, matched par to settle for second place, two shots ahead of Naomi Ko who had a 74.
Mikhaela Fortuna, Sofia Chabon and Francesca Bernice Olivarez-Ilas were the other Filipinos who also saw action in the tournament.
Fortuna wound up with 221 (73-74-74), Chabon tallied 228 (75-73-80) and Ilas scored 228 (81-74-73).
The event is one of the premier amateur golf tournament in the United States, attracting 60 top women golfers.
Go has been named to the national squad that will see action in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She will be joined by Yuka Sato and Harmie Constantino.
The men’s team, on the other hand, is composed of Wei Wei Gao, Paolo Wong, Rupert Zaragosa and Carl Corpuz.
