Police forces in Metro Manila were placed in highest security alert status as part of the safety measures for the 119th Independence Day today and the concert of a popular pop star on Thursday.
Chief Inspector Kim Molitas, spokesperson of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said they have already mapped out security protocols for the events this week.
“We will celebrate our 119th Independence Day by remaining full alert. All security preparations remain in place,” said Molitas.
Intense security preparations are being conducted amid fears of terror attacks, what with speculations of possible spillover of attacks in Metro Manila from the on-going clashes in Marawi City.
It was recalled that during the country’s hosting of ASEAN Meeting, a bomb attack occurred in Quiapo, Manila although the police ruled out terrorism.
Officials are also trying to prevent the repeat of the bomb attack in Britain during the concert of American singer Ariana Grande who will hold the same concert in Manila in August.
Britney Spears, however, has a schedule concert on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Security protocols will be followed during the traditional celebration at the Luneta Park and all other events in Metro Manila,” said Molitas.
“Likewise, protocols set by the Southern Police District and event organizers during concerts will be implemented,” she added.
For his part, SPD director Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario said they will be holding a coordination meeting with event organizers of Britney Spears concert on Tuesday.
He said the meeting will be attended by all agencies involved in the security of the concert.
