12 noon – Flying V vs Wangs
2 p.m. – Cignal vs AMA
The unbeaten Flying V Thunder shoot for their third straight win even as the Cignal Hawkeyes aim to bounce back from a stunning loss last week when they face separate rivals today in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Flying V faces Wangs Basketball in 12 noon curtain raiser before Cignal takes on AMA Online Education at 2 p.m.
Powered by Jeron Teng, the Thunder began their maiden conference with a hard-fought win over the Hawkeyes followed by a wire-to-win victory over the Gamboa Coffee Lovers last week to boost their title chances in the PBA’s development tournament.
But Flying V coach Eric Altamirano remains worried of his defensive effort.“There’s no doubt that this team can play on offense. The thing I’m worried about is our defense,” Altamirano said.
Eric Salamat and Gab Banal are also providing steady contributions for the Thunder, who are facing a Wangs team that split its first two matches.
Meanwhile, Cignal is eager to redeem itself after falling 66-65 to Marinerong Pilipino last Thursday. In that game, the Hawkeyes blew a double-digit lead then failed to score the winning basket in the dying seconds.
“It’s a tough situation for us coming from a loss against Marinerong Pilipino, so going to this game against AMA, it’s a big character test for us,” said Cignal mentor Boyet Fernandez. (Jonas Terrado)
