Luis Castro turned in his worst round in four days – a four-over 72 – but still won by six over Paolo Wong as he dominated the Aguinaldo Junior Open Championship yesterday at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club in Quezon City.
Castro, who rode on back-to-back 69s to take control halfway through the 72-hole event, gunned down three birdies but made five bogeys and a double-bogey to close out with a 37-35 card for a nine-over 281 aggregate at the par-68 military layout.
Wong, who moved to second in the third round but fell nine shots off Castro, tried to give chase with a birdie opening but stumbled with a double-bogey on No. 4 and ended up with a 69 for runner-up honors at 287 while Kim Sang Jin placed a distant third at 294 after a 73.
Pierre Ticzon shot a 71 and wound up fourth at 301, Riggs Illescas skied to a 77 and placed fifth at 302 while Richnell Albano faded with an 80 and tumbled to sixth at 303.
Harmie Constantino also ran away with the girls’ crown in the Championship Division with a two-over 70 for 270 as she and Castro won the Red Jacket, a one-year membership at CAGC and a round trip ticket to US for their feats.
