A suspected robber listed in police drug watchlist was killed in an encounter with patrolling policemen after robbing a commuter early yesterday morning in Parañaque City.
Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo, city police chief, said the incident happened at about2:48 a.m. on Mactan Street corner Tomas Claudio Street, Baclaran, Parañaque City.
According to Modequillo, a certain Mia Cruz Santos told police that she was waiting for a taxi ride on her way to Cavite at the corner of Roxas Boulevard and Tomas Claudio when was approached by unidentified man armed with firearm and declared a holdup.
Santos said the suspect forcibly took her cellular phone and bags containing cash and other personal belonging.
The victim said suspect, after taking the loot, casually walked going to the direction of Tomas Claudio Street.
Santos sought assistance from motorcycle cops of Police Community Precinct 1 (PCP-1) who were then conducting patrol in the area.
Modequillo said the lawmen tried to accost the suspect, but the latter drew his gun and fired shots at the approaching cops.
Police returned fire, killing the suspect on site.
The police chief said that one Nino Garcia claimed that the slain suspect was the same person who robbed his sister last Monday at the same place.
Police recovered from the crime scene a .38-caliber revolver with two spent shells and one live bullet, a cellular phone and personal belongings of the victim, three empty shells from .9mm pistol, one heat-sealed transparent sachet containing shabu found inside the pocket of the suspect.
