President Duterte has declared Monday, June 26, a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan.
In Proclamation No. 235 signed last June 16, Duterte urged the public to join the Filipino Muslims in peace in celebration of the occasion.
“The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” Duterte said in the proclamation.
According to Duterte, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended to declare June 26 as a national holiday in observance of the feast.
“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Monday, 26 June 2017, as a regular holiday throughout the country,” Duterte said.
