(The Arena, San Juan City)
5 p.m. – Generika vs Foton
7 p.m. – Cignal vs Petron
Ces Molina fired 20 points as Petron overpowered Generika-Ayala, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Blaze Spikers overcame their erratic plays early on to outlast the Lifesavers and improve their win-loss record to 3-1 in Pool C.
Molina highlighted her game-long brilliance with 15 hits, three blocks and two aces, while, Aiza Pontillas chipped in 17 points after unleashing 13 kills.
Petron was one point shy of taking the second set but poor reception allowed Generika to turn the set around with Angeli Araneta, Fiola Ceballos, and Patty Orendain coming through with clutch hits.
The Blaze Spikers, however, remained undaunted as they fought back mightily in the third set that saw them race to a 14-5 lead – thanks to Sis Rondina’s timely hits.
The University of Santo Tomas standout managed seven points despite playing sparingly. She sprained her ankle in the first set and was fielded back only in the third set.
Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos was far from satisfied, though, saying: “We relaxed in the second set.”
While they managed 51 attacks, the Blaze Spikers gave up 13 points due to service errors. Overall, they committed 34 errors.
But they defended well with 12 blocks, including four from Pontillas.
Generika-Ayala dropped to a 2-2 mark despite Orendain’s 14 points. Araneta and Ceballos had 13 points each.
