President Duterte yesterday encouraged Muslim Filipinos to channel their energies to foster national unity as he greeted them on the celebration of Eid’l Fitr which marks the end of Muslim holy month of Ramadan today.
Duterte also encouraged Muslim Filipinos to work together for a society grounded on love, mutual respect, and understanding.
“On this special day, remember to thank Allah for bestowing upon you the resolve, courage, and fortitude to obey His commandments during the blessed month of Ramadan,” Duterte said in his Eid’l Fitr message.
“May this renewed sense of spiritual accomplishment give you the strength and courage to cultivate our communities,” he said.
“In times when all odds seem stacked against us, it is our willpower and faith that will always see us through,” Duterte added.
“Let us channel our energies towards fostering national unity – because dedicating our lives to the betterment of humanity is the best way to demonstrate our devotion to God,” Duterte said.
Eid’l Fitr, also the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, signifies Muslims’ successful journey toward spiritual purification through a month-long fasting.
Violence marred the country’s observance of Ramadan after the Islamic State-inspired Maute Group attacked Marawi City on May 23.
The armed conflict, which is now on its 34th day, prompted Duterte to place Mindanao under Martial Law and to suspend the privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus for 60 days.
