1 p.m. – Café Lupe vs IEM
4 p.m. – UP vs BaliPure
6:30 p.m. – Pocari Sweat vs Power Smashers
Pocari Sweat notched its second straight win by downing Perlas-BanKo, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, to grab the provisional solo lead in the women’s division of the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
After losing the second set, the Lady Warriors almost dropped the fourth after squandering a huge 18-12 lead.
Good thing for Pocari Sweat, Myla Pablo came to the team’s rescue once again to finally put away Perlas’ comeback bid.
Pablo led the defending champions with 23 points, including a crosscourt hit that tied the count at 25-all.
More than that, it enabled Pocari to regain momentum as Disiree Dadang put them on top with a bullet-like spike before sealing the win following an error by Perlas’ Ella de Jesus.
Newly appointed Pocari Sweat Coach Rico De Guzman was pleased with their win this time but they need to polish their offense if they want to secure their fourth title in the premier volleyball league.
Meantime, Creamline and BaliPure were still playing at presstime with both teams hoping to tie Pocari Sweat for the lead. Both Creamline and BaliPure hurdled their opening day assignments.
Meantime, Megabuilders and Air Force bested their respective opponents in contrasting fashions yesterday and stayed on top in the men’s division.
The Volley Bolts jolted the Café Lupe Sun Risers, 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, while the reigning titlist Jet Spikers survived the Sta. Elena Wrecking Balls, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 15-10, for their second straight win in as many outings.
Megabuilders needed only 56 minutes to prevail as it dominated Café Lupe in attacks (37-27), blocks (6-1), and service aces (4-1).
