Actress Jolina Magdangal was hurt after a van driven by a church worker crashed into their sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Senior Police Officer 2 Achilles Magat of the QCPD Traffic Sector 3 said Magdangal was rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center on E. Rodriguez Avenue after sustaining minor injuries during the road crash that occurred on East Avenue in Barangay Central around 1:30 a.m.
The driver of the van, Peter Sevilla, 27, sustained injuries on his legs as the strong impact of the collision crushed his Nissan Urvan van’s front. He was brought to the nearby East Avenue Medical Center.
Reports said Magdangal and her vocalist husband Mark Escueta were on their way to the airport for a vacation on board their SUV driven by Orly Sebolino when they met the accident. Sevilla, meanwhile, was reportedly enroute to Makati.
According to Magat, the SUV had just stopped at a traffic light in front of the Philippine Heart Center on East Avenue when Sevilla’s vehicle suddenly crashed into the rear of Magdangal’s Mitsubishi Montero.
The impact wrecked Sevilla’s van and crushed the SUV’s rear.
Magat said Sevilla admitted his fault in the accident, saying he fell asleep while driving. One of the passengers said they had driven to the city all the way from Batangas prior to the incident.
Police said Magdangal was immediately released from the hospital after undergoing treatment and is now resting in her house in Quezon City.
Magat said he has yet to know from Magdangal if she would pursue charges against Sevilla who remained confined in the hospital as of yesterday afternoon.
