SINGAPORE – John Marvin Rafols finally fulfilled his cherished dream by winning the gold medal in the triple jump in the ASEAN School Games Monday here.
A grade 12 student at the University of Cebu, Rafols leapt to a personal-best 15.02 meters to beat Thai Srinonta Nattapong for the gold.
It was his second medal in two days having won the bronze in long jump.
Karl Arvyn Aquino, who earlier won the long jump gold, settled for bronze this time.
“I am really happy to bring honor for the country. Big blessing for me as an athlete,” said the 18-year-old Rafols,
Meantime, volleyball player Kenneth Culabat was cited by Singapore’s Ministry of Education for his honesty after he returned valuable items he found inside the rest room at the Republic Polytechnic here.
