Annoyed by foreign interference in local affairs, President Duterte said he is not interested in visiting the United States during his term.
“There will never be a time that I will go to America during my term or even thereafter,” the President said in an interview with reporters in Davao City yesterday.
Duterte said he has visited the United States in the past and found the place “lousy.”
The President made the remarks after a US lawmaker claimed he should be barred from entering the White House over his alleged human rights abuses.
Massachusetts Rep. James McGovern, in his remarks in a probe on alleged human rights violations in Duterte’s war against drugs, said he intends to lead a protest once the Chief Executive visits the White House.
The President lashed out at the US Congress for meddling with domestic issues such as the drug crackdown. He said the US Congress should instead conduct a probe on the US human rights violations in other parts of the world.
“Otherwise I would be forced to investigate you also. I will start with your past sins,” he said, adding he plans to dig up archives of photographs of US atrocities during their attempt to conquer Mindanao several decades ago.
