As promised, GlobalPort gave unimpressive import Jabril Trawick the pink slip and hired big man Murphey Holloway as its new reinforcement in the PBA Governors Cup, hoping it could get the needed presence that the Batang Pier have been looking for.
After arriving in the country last Friday night when GlobalPort dropped a close 96-98 loss to Rain or Shine in its opening assignment, Holloway easily made the height limit as he was measured 6-foot-4 and 13/16 inches yesterday morning according to GlobalPort team manager Bonnie Tan.
The former Ole Miss standout is expected to suit up on Wednesday night when the Batang Pier clash with the Phoenix Fuel Masters at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Undrafted in the 2013 NBA rookie draft, Holloway should come in tip-top shape after coming off an impressive stint with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.
Holloway is expected to make his presence felt in the lane, something that the athletic Trawick failed to provide against the Elasto Painters as he could only score three points and fouled out in just 16 minutes of action.
“May import ba kami?” GlobalPort mentor Franz Pumaren asked scribes sarcastically, visibly unimpressed with Trawick’s initial – and turned out to be his final – showing with the Batang Pier.
“We were not happy because of the way he has performed especially in our last pre-season game against Meralco. In our first tune-up game, he played well and scored 27 points. But in the next game, he looked different.”
