Marinerong Pilipino flirted at resetting two league records after crushing an uninterested Gamboa Coffee, 138-69, yesterday to move a win shy of securing a quarterfinals berth in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Skippers had eight players in double figures and outscored the Coffee Lovers, 81-28, in the second half to secure their fourth straight victory and a step closer toward becoming the fourth team to make the playoffs.
Coach Koy Banal’s team improved to 5-4, needing to beat AMA Online Education on Thursday to secure their place in the playoffs.
Paolo Javelona topscored with 16 points but it was Joseph Marata and Mark Isip who set the tone for another lopsided game in the PBA’s developmental tourney behind their early contributions.
Marata scored all of his 15 points in the first half while Isip had seven of his 11 in the second period that saw Marinerong Pilipino take a 57-41 halftime lead.
Tanduay holds both records which were set in a 141-65 demolition of Zark’s Burgers earlier this month.
