Marcus del Rosario romped off with victories in singles and doubles while Bea Acena pulled off two singles wins and one doubles feat as the NCR bets dominated the Orchard leg of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala age group tennis tournament in Dasmariñas, Cavite yesterday.
Del Rosario went through some anxious moments in the semis, thwarting EJ Geluz, 6-4, 6-4, before trouncing Stefano Gurria, 6-0, 6-3, to claim the boys’ 16-and-under crown in the Group 2 tournament sponsored by Palawan Pawnshop and presented by Slazenger.
The Alabang ace later teamed up with Lorenz Quitara to crush Geluz and Gurria, 8-2, and pocket the 18-U doubles plum at the Orchard Golf and Country Club tennis courts.
The third ranked Acena upended No. 2 Gabby Sandejas, 6-1, 6-3, in the semis then the Valle Verde Country Club bet overpowered sibling Renee Acena twice, 6-2, 6-2, in the girls’ 16-U finals, and 6-1, 6-0, in the 18-U championship.
The Acenas later routed Elise Geluz and Denise Bernardo, 8-0, to run away with the 18-U doubles title in the four-day event backed by Asiatraders Corp. and the new Unified tennis group, led by PPS-PEPP, Cebuana Lhuillier, Wilson, Toby’s and B-Meg.
Other winners were Cavite’s Kean Enriquez, Samuel Nuguit from Las Piñas, Diego Dayrit and Gabriel Tiamson, both from Alabang, Melody Dizon from Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Elise Geluz from Imus, Cavite.
Enriquez swept Frank Dilao, 4-0, 4-0, for the 10-unisex plum; Nuguit whipped JT Bernardo, 6-1, 6-2, for the boys’ 12-U crown; Dayrit blasted Joaquin De Leon, 6-0, 6-0, for the 14-U title; and Tiamson held off Gurria, 6-3, 6-0, for the 18-U diadem.
