TAGAYTAY CITY – Newly appointed Mutya ng Pilipinas president Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo has lauded local designers who continue to dress up future beauty queens in the country.
“A designer is the soulmate of a beauty queen because without them, we will not shine,” said Tamayo, during the evening gown competition held at Alta D’ Tagaytay in Tagaytay City over the weekend.
Tamayo appealed to the fashion designers to continue making world-class collections for Filipinos.
“Please don’t get tired of helping those ladies who want to become beauty queens,” she said.
Sandrianne Esquilona of Tarlac was adjudged Best in Evening Gown in a creation by Rian Fernandez.
First runner-up was Janie Alipo-on of Navotas while Ilene Astrid de Vera of Cebu finished 2nd runner-up.
Tamayo also said that the beauty pageant will design new crowns for next year’s edition of the prestigious competition.
“For now, we will revise the crowns. But next year, which is our golden year, we will work on new crowns,” she said.
Tamayo also said that the Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant will keep its original theme song.
Thirty candidates are competing in this year’s pageant which advocates “beauty tourism.”
Titles at stake are Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International 2017, and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities 2017.
The grand coronation night of 49th Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant will be held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater Resorts World Manila in Pasay City tonight at 7.
