A private entity committed to disseminate issues inimical to public interest has warned against the continued use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that are harmful to humans, plants, and environment.
Gerry Constantino of the Bayan Bago ang Lahat said there are at least two laws that prohibit the importation of toxic substances – Republic Act 6969 signed into law by the late President Corazon Aquino in 1990 and the Republic Act 10068, also known as the Agricultural Organic Art, signed by former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria M. Arroyo.
“Why import toxic substances when we have equally effective vermicast organic fertilizers and indigenous, natural botanical pest control in-puts that are safe to humans, plants, and environment?” Constantino asked.
At the same time, Constantino urged farmers to do their share of nurturing agriculture.
