Games Saturday
(The Arena, San Juan City)
10 a.m. – Air Force vs Sta. Elena (for third)
1 p.m. – Cignal vs Megabuilders (Game 2)
Ysay Marasigan produced another strong performance and Cignal downed Megabuilders, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, to move one win away from clinching the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference men’s crown yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Marasigan, a former Ateneo standout, pumped in 16 kills and four aces to finish with 21 points as the HD Spikers drew the first blood in their best-of-three championship series.
Edmar Bonono also stepped up for Cignal with 14 points, 12 coming from kills, even as Peter Torres chipped in 11 points.
It was a revenge of sorts for Cignal, whose only defeat came at the hands of Megabuilders, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17, in the eliminations.
Another victory for the HD Spikers would earn them their third title.
Cignal showed its dominance in attacks (53-49), blocks (9-6), and service aces (6-3) while making crucial stops on Megabuilders’ Bryan Bagunas, Francis Saura, and Fauzi Ismail.
Bagunas finished with 14 points, while Saura and Ismail contributed 13 and 11, for the Wrecking Bolt.
Meanwhile, Air Force bested Sta. Elena, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, to move a win away from settling for third place.
