Voting 19-2, the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms chaired by CIBAC Party-List Rep. Sherwin Tugna approved a motion to postpone the scheduled Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls on Oct. 23 to the second Monday of May 2018.
The motion was made by administration solon, Marinduque lone district Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco during a Committee hearing on Monday.
It was seconded by Deputy Speaker Gwen Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district.
Along with the seven-month postponement of the elections, the Committee also gave its nod to the holdover of the sitting village and youth officials, as per Velasco’s motion.
The Suffrage panel basically moved to follow the consensus reached during last week’s all-House member caucus which specifically tackled whether or not they would follow President Rodrigo Duterte’s request for another postponement to the Barangay and SK elections.
