BIÑAN, Laguna – The Philippines women’s volleyball team committed 24 errors and absorbed a crushing 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 defeat to Taiwan in the consolation round of the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Alonte Sports Arena here.
Still reeling from a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 defeat to Thailand for a semis berth, the Nationals struggled with their reception and never recovered as they dropped their second straight game.
Prior to their three-set defeat to the Thais, the Nationals produced a gutsy four-set win over Vietnam.
The loss pulled the Nationals down to a battle for seventh with Kazakhstan today at 10 a.m.
The Nationals have a good chance against the Kazakhs since the latter lost to the Vietnamese, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 20-25, 15-5.
A ray of hope emerge in the third when the Nationals took a 10-4 advantage.
But the Nationals failed to sustain their hot start – no thanks to a poor reception.
Alyssa Valdez led the Nationals with 13 points, including 10 kills and two aces, while Jaja Santiago added 10 points, eight coming from attacks.
Ces Molina had eight points, even as Aiza Pontillas and Maika Ortiz contributed seven points apiece.
