The Philippine women’s volleyball team will be campaigning in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia next week armed with a wider experience after its brave showing in the recent 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.
The Nationals finished eighth in the biennial event, eclipsing the country’s previous finish of 12th place in 2013 and 2015 and matching the last performances in 1995, 1997, and 2003.
“Ito na talaga yung start,” said Alyssa Valdez. “Na-inspire kami sa tournament na ito to move forward to our next goal which is the SEA Games.”
It would be a short break for the PH team before it plunges into action anew. The squad leaves for Kuala Lumpur tomorrow as competition starts on Aug. 21.
“We have to recover fast kasi may SEA Games pa. Bawi lang ng bawi. We have to see the little things para mas maging fluid pa ‘yung galaw namin,” Valdez said.
Even PH team Francis Vicente saw the improvement from the squad since their 17-day training stint in Japan.
“I’m always proud of them. Ang kailangan lang natin, mag-focus tayo kung paano tayo magbabasa ng bola, ‘yung floor defense mas patibayin, at mas magkaroon ng prominence sa spiking and tactics,” Vicente said.
