GlobalPort made a big run in the fourth quarter behind the all-around plays of Stanley Pringle and then held on to beat Kia, 102-90, at the resumption of the PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The first three periods saw the Batang Pier toy with the determined Picanto, but GlobalPort turned the heat up a notch when it mattered most with a scoring binge in the first three minutes of the final frame.
Ahead by just five points, 74-69, GlobalPort used an 11-0 run that started with center Bradwyn Guinti completing a three-point play off a foul by Nico Salva for a 77-69 advantage.
Pringle converted a jump shot after a turnover by Kia, and a missed shot by the Picanto led to a three-point shot by Mike Cortez. Another miscue of Kia gave the Batang Pier the possession which Mac Baracael took advantage of with a triple for an 85-69 lead with 9:33 left.
Pringle had a hand on all plays – dishing a pass to Guinto, collared an offensive rebound that led to nailing a jumper, found Cortez at the left side corner, and drove the lane to attract the defense for Baracael to get his shot from the rainbow territory.
That triple gave GlobalPort its biggest lead in the game, but Kia – behind rookie Reden Celda’s three-point sniping – rallied back and trimmed the deficit to 96-90 with 56 seconds left in the game.
GlobalPort import Murphy Holloway, who collected 29 points and 18 rebounds, eluded his defender Eric Camson for a slam dunk that gave the Batang Pier a 98-90 advantage with 49.1 seconds to play.
