The boxing rematch between Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Australian Jeff Horn will be held in the country this December, the Department of Tourism (DoT) announced yesterday.
In a press conference at the DoT office in Makati, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo announced that they were just informed that the fight will no longer be held in Brisbane, Australia.
Horn surprised the boxing community when he pulled off a stunning win over Pacquiao when the fight was held in Brisbane.
“Just this morning, we had a talk with Congressman Eric Pineda,” Teo said.
Pineda is also Pacquiao’s business manager.
The DoT already has an agreement with the MP Productions for the rematch event, which will take place at the Philippine Arena.
Teo also noted that they will make sure that all the funds for the event will come from sponsors.
“We will make sure na walang gastos ang DoT, it will be from sponsors,” she stated.
Meanwhile, tourism officials assured that the tickets for the upcoming fight will be “affordable.”
The DoT has yet to reveal more details regarding the country’s hosting of the said boxing match.
