Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said he sees nothing wrong with the participation of a policeman in uniform in a surprise marriage proposal that went viral in the social media.
“There is nothing wrong because it was pre-arranged, and he (the policeman) was able to help,” said Dela Rosa.
The Chief PNP is referring to the viral video wherein a man was seen being arrested by a policeman. The girlfriend of the man then aggressively questioned the arrest and demanded for a copy of arrest warrant.
The cop then ordered the man to kneel and later gave the supposed arrest warrant to the girlfriend. The supposed arrest warrant, however, contains a question on whether or not the girl wants to be his wife. The girl said yes.
If the policeman was indeed a member of the police force, Dela Rosa said the former did not violate anything as it appears that the man sought his assistance to surprise the girl. The policeman in the video appeared to be a real policeman and a friend of the would-be groom.
Some netizens reacted that the policeman in a viral video may be violating something, what with the issue now hounding the policemen regarding the conduct of anti-drugs operations.
But Dela Rosa said they go with the simple rule that there will be no case if there would be no complainant.
He added that it did not even cross on his mind that the entire incident is riding on the controversial death of 17-year old Kian Lloyd delos Santos who was dragged by policemen before he was allegedly executed.
