Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered a full speed conduct of operations against illegal drugs amid the setback brought by the alleged execution of 17-year old Kian Lloyd delos Santos.
Dela Rosa said he issued the order during their command conference last week that was attended by regional directors and heads of police’s National Support Units.
“My instructions to my regional directors: ‘I am not ordering you to slow down. I am ordering you to be on full speed’,” said Dela Rosa.
It was recalled that the anti-illegal drugs campaign went slow after the controversy caused by the execution-style death of Delos Santos allegedly perpetrated by Caloocan City policemen.
Delos Santos was among the nearly 100 alleged suspected drug pushers and users killed during three major operations in Bulacan, Manila, Caloocan, Navotas and Malabon.
The noise created by the death of Kian, however, had subsided after his parents met with President Duterte and was shown in photo opportunity doing a fist gesture with the Chief Executive.
“I want the same intensity. They should not be distracted but instead, make sure that they do things properly,” said Dela Rosa.
Aside from illegal drugs, Dela Rosa said he also issued the same order against illegal gambling operations across the country.
“The operations against illegal gambling is okay, there are positive developments,” said Dela Rosa.
The official, it was recalled, gave police regional directors 15 days to end the illegal gambling operations across the country, especially jueteng.
