Far Eastern University clobbered San Sebastian College, 25-17, 25-21, 25-14, yesterday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
SSC sorely missed the services of Grethcel Soltones, a three-time Most Valuable Player who has exhausted her playing years.
Bernadeth Pons led the Lady Tams with 13 points including eight kills and two service aces against the Lady Stags.
FEU fired 10 service aces to expose San Sebastian’s week floor defense, with veterans Jerrili Malabanan and Pons combining for four aces.
Toni Rose Basas also stepped up for the Lady Tams with 11 points, while Jeanette Villareal and Malabanan added eight and seven points, respectively.
San Sebastian was led by Nikka Dalisay who had 10 points.
With FEU’s intact lineup, the Lady Tams dominated the Lady Stags in attacks (40-24), blocks (4-2), and service aces (10-5).
In men’s play, Ateneo turned back feisty Far Eastern University, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
Mark Espejo pumped in 24 kills and making two service aces to finish with 27 points for the Eagles, who also seek to establish a dynasty in the league after winning back-to-back crowns in the UAAP.
In the first game, last year’s runner-up National University pummeled San Beda, 25-15, 25-16, 25-16.
The Bulldogs, finalists in the last UAAP season, swatted away 11 blocks including five from James Natividad.
