Two members of President Duterte’s family are prepared to face a Senate inquiry on the corruption allegations within the Bureau of Customs (BoC), Malacañang said Monday.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, however, left to Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and his brother-in-law Manases Carpio if they would answer questions or remain silent once they attend the hearing.
“I’m sure the gentlemen are willing to – as they have said, are willing to face the Senate,” Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said during a Palace news conference.
“Well, that will be their prerogative but they’ve definitely said that they’re willing to face,” he said, when asked if the two will invoke their right against self-incrimination during the Senate probe.
The Senate blue ribbon committee will reportedly summon Duterte and Carpio to the next hearing on Thursday to explain their alleged involvement in so-called “Davao Group” within the customs bureau.
