The new-look Davao Aguilas were denied of a breakthrough first win after battling Global-Cebu to a 2-all draw Saturday in the resumption of the Philippines Football League at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.
Phil Younghusband and Jason de Jong, two of the major coups made by the Aguilas in the recent transfer window, cancelled a pair of Global leads by scoring in each half that allowed both teams to split a point.
Davao, which made stunning moves by acquiring Phil and James Younghusband from league-leader Meralco-Manila and de Jong from Ceres-Negros, Simone Rota from Stallion-Laguna and Matt Hartmann from Global, remained winless after 13 matches with six draws and seven losses.
The draw dropped Global further in the race for the lead. The Cebuanos are in third place with 30 points, 10 off Meralco for the top spot.
Global’s Paolo Salenga scored the opener 13 minutes after kickoff but Phil leveled the count for Davao with a spot kick in the 41st.
Dennis Villanueva restored Global’s lead two minutes later, before De Jong tied it up shortly past the hour mark.
