The country’s differently-abled athletes leave today for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia confident of doing well in the 9th ASEAN Para Games.
The week-long event starts on Sunday with the Filipino bets out to do better than their abled counterparts that bombed out during the recent SEA Games.
PH chief de mission Ral Rosario, who left early yesterday to attend the delegation head meeting the same day, said the 164-member delegation is capable of winning at least 27 golds – three more than what the abled athletes won in the Kuala Lumpur Games.
In the Singapore edition two years ago, the Philippines won onlyb 16 golds.
“The team is in high spirits, and if our estimation is correct, we have a strong chance of winning 27 golds, perhaps more,” said Rosario in Monday Night’s sendoff at the Dads restaurant in Edsa, Mandaluyong City.
Philippine Sports commissioners Celia Kiram and Arnold Agustin were among the well-wishers of the team along with newly-formed Paralympics Committee president Mike Barredo and vice president Tom Carrasco.
