President Duterte is not keen on cooperating with the Ombudsman’s investigation into allegations he has unexplained wealth hidden in bank accounts.
Duterte declared that he would “not submit to the jurisdiction” of the Ombudsman after slamming its deputy for allegedly using fabricated evidence on his alleged bank transactions.
Duterte, in profanity-laced remarks before the Integrated Bar of the Philippines in Davao City last Saturday, insisted that the allegations hurled against him were “lies based on baseless hundreds of millions.”
“I will not submit to the jurisdiction of the Ombudsman,” the President said. “Waving fabricated evidence in front, lying through his teeth in front of the nation tapos you want me to submit to the jurisdiction of the Ombudsman,” he said.
Malacañang has said the President has “nothing to hide” amid the inquiry initiated by the Ombudsman into his and family’s wealth arising from a corruption complaint filed by Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the President respects the internal processes of the Ombudsman as an independent body and trusts its impartiality in the conduct of its fact-finding duty. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
