Rice is the “most vicious of all carbohydrates,” President Duterte said as he warned the public about the health risks of having too much rice in their diet.
The President, in remarks to government troops during the groundbreaking ceremony of a military housing project in San Miguel, Bulacan last Wednesday, cautioned that people may acquire diabetes as well as heart and liver ailments for eating too much rice.
“Pag hit mo ng 60 o 50, pasok na ‘yan – diabetes kasi kinakain natin kanin. That’s the most vicious of all the carbohydrates kaya pinakamataas ang Southeast Asia because we are a rice-eating nation,” he said.
“Hindi ‘yan virus, it is not a bacteria. It just malfunctions sa body mo because of ‘yung sobra tayo sa carbohydrates,” Duterte said. “Heart, tatamaan ‘yan. Kidney, kayong mga sundalo. Halos lahat, kidney.”
The President tackled the importance of public health while discussing his anti-drug efforts to preserve and protect the Filipino nation.
He explained that the government must protect the children from getting hooked on illegal drugs because parents will eventually rely on their kids in their twilight years.
Duterte said he could finance his and his family’s hospitalization for “seven months” and will eventually rely on his children for assistance afterwards.
“If I get to live for 15 years, ‘yang sweldo ko, kasya ‘yan sa medisina? Pati pagtanda ko, sinong magbayad ng hospital? Sinong magsubo ng lugaw sa bunganga ko? Ako? Mga anak ko,” he said.
