Typhoon “Paolo” (international name “Lan”) has intensified and continues to accelerate away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.
PAGASA said Paolo was expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility last night or this morning towards Japan.
At 1 p.m. yesterday, Paolo was spotted at 1,050 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 180 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph, moving north-northeast at 22 kph.
This morning, Paolo will be 1,395 kms northeast of Basco or outside the PAR and 2,460 kms northeast of Basco tomorrow morning.
Paolo’s estimated rainfall amount is moderate to heavy within its 1,900-km diameter.
No tropical cyclone warning signal was raised but the State weather bureau said that Paolo will cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate and at times heavy rainshowers with thunderstorms over Wes
Heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, and Bulacan.
PAGASA said sea travel also remains risky over the seaboard of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Mindanao, the southern and eastern seaboards of Palawan, and the western and eastern seaboards of Visayas.
